I have always wanted to take a trip in a classic Volkswagen van. I have looked at pictures on Pinterest, followed people living the van life, and always thought how cool that was. However, I had to wait until 2025 to actually experience it. The time of my life was not the best as I lost my job at the end of August (officially, at the end of October) so my mood before the trip was a down but the bookings were done and I saved the money for it anyways so we did it Truth be told, this was not my very first campervan/camping experience, but the first with a van. I am also very lucky to have found a person that, although with a soft spot for comfort, was eager to try this experience. I think it definitely requires a high disposition on being uncomfortable. For a start, we had no inside toilet so we were always depending on what we were finding. We actually rent a portable toilet but the idea of cleaning it at the end of the trip made us desist to use it. Also the bed is not one of the most comfortable ones being on the roof and having just a thin mattress. Reading this might change the mind of who is fantasizing the van life. To me, it make it just more and more appealing (even though I must admit I was happy to go back to my mattress and toilet in the end!).

And here we are with our itinerary. We decided to go to south of Spain and Portugal as we were traveling during low season, in October, and that meant we wanted to stay in a warm area. The good thing about this time was the fact that few people were traveling so there was no need to book in advance. Except for our flight, the van and the tickets for Alhambra, nothing was else was predefined. And this made the trip even more adventurous.
